W. W. Willis' journal of the sick detatchment: "Next (19th) day we resumed our march. This day we halted for Bro. Freeman to die after which we continued our march till the usual time of camping we then buried his corpse To night Bro Richard Carter died next morning we buried him by the side of Bro Freeman, their graves are four miles south of Sacora on the Rio Grande…”

Modern Headstone: Since no one knows exactly where Richard was buried the John and Hannah Knight Libby Carter Family Organization in 2021 had a military headstone erected in the Sunset Memorial Park, Albuquerque, Bernalillo, New Mexico, United States. (Understand his body isn't there but our organization purchased the plot in this cemetery and the United States government provided a veteran's bronze headstone.)
