Acquisition of Land in Culpeper County, VA
Acquisition of Land from Virginia Northern Neck Land Grants 1742-1775, Vol. 2:
- P-128: Reuben Slaughter of Culpepper County, 250 acres in said County. Surv. Richard Young. Adj. Francis Slaughter, Jonathan Beckwith Esq., Bee Tree Branch, Robert Beverley Esq., Ruffin's Run. 10 June 1772. [Virginia Northern Neck Land Grants, 1742-1775, Vol. 2, pg. 216].
Reuben Slaughter
- Reuben Slaughter was the son of Francis Slaughter and Ann Lightfoot and the grandson of Robert Slaughter and Frances Ann Jones. He was born about 1736 in Essex County, Virginia.
- He married Betty (Ann) Poindexter on January 26, 1759.
- In 1765, he inherited over 1000 acres of land near Gourd Vine Fork in Culpeper County from his father.
- Reuben and Betty were the parents of thirteen children.
- Reuben was a Captain in the Bedford Militia of Virginia during the Revolution.
- Reuben was a Sergeant with Clendenin in 1788, and was named surveyor of Kanawha County in 1789.
- Reuben died about 1805. The place of his burial is unknown at this time. There is, however, a memorial to him and Andrew Donnally in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Charleston, West Virginia.
