Rena Heeringa, age 96, went home to her Lord and Savior Wed., Jan. 28, 2009. A lifelong Lynden resident, she was born Oct. 6, 1912 to Jacob and Grace (Kok) Haveman. Rena was married to Peter Heeringa Feb. 17, 1932 in the family home where she lived for 72 years. A charter member of Faith Reformed Church and active in women's ministries; she was a member of and made quilts for the Lighthouse Mission Auxiliary and volunteered at the Christian Health Care Center calling numbers for Bingo. Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting and quilting. Rena enjoyed traveling and her love for the Lord was exemplified as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Peter in 2004; two brothers; seven sisters; and grandson, Jeff Heeringa; she is survived by her children Joyce (John) Fakkema of Oak Harbor; Ted (Frieda) Heeringa of Everson; Don (Carol Ann) Heeringa of Wisconsin; Rose (Don) Scheffer and Randy (Sharon) Heeringa of Lynden; 29 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 5, 1:00 pm at Monumenta Cemetery followed by a 2:00 pm memorial service at Faith Reformed Church, 612 Liberty St. in Lynden.
