According to Barbara Lewis, she states:
Rebecca Armstrong was 54 years old when she married Jonathan Aker in Smyth County in 1838. She could not have been the Mother of Robert J. and Catherine Aker. She was their step-mother. Rebecca was the Mother of Lucy Eldridge Armstrong who married Joseph W. Davis. This is verified in Then and Now, An Autobiograpgical Sketch by James A. Davis, Rebecca's grandson, which was obtained from the James A. Davis Collection of the Library of Virginia.
