"I give and bequeath to my son Jonathan Acker the Plantation where on he now resides, for seven hundred pounds with the condition his share of his father's estate shall be discounted out of the said seven hundred pounds, and the balance he shall pay in different terms, that is to say one hundred dollars the first day of May in the year 1814 and the year following the same day and date one hundred and fifty dollars, and so on till paid."

Above the village of Graseclose is an old building now used as a carriage and former stage house which was once the home of Jonathan Aker and a Roadside Inn of reputation. Andrew Jackson would make a point of stopping there on his trips through Smythe County, attracted by the excellent fare and also by the fine blooded horses that Mr. Aker kept.
Old Hickory was a great lover of horse flesh and no doubt he and Jonathan Aker, who specialized in raising fine horses, found much in common.
Jonathan Aker was one of the most progressive and successful farmers of his generation in Smythe.
