Dr. Anthony Troha writes: Finally, there is the open question of the maiden name of Cornelius Price Rosemon’s mother. Based on the 1880 Census record, I think that it is likely that Rebecca Rosemon’s maiden name was “Price”. 1880 Census Dist 635, New York (Manhattan), New York City-Greater, New York Rosemon, Edward L. W M 65 Retired Builder NJ NJ NJ Rosemon, Rebecca W F 60 wife keeping house NJ NJ NJ Rosemon, Cornelius P. W M 26 son Clerk NY NJ NJ Rosemon, Alice W F 26 dau-in-law at home NY NY NY (Alice Jackson Rosemon) Rosemon, Alice W F 17 dau at home NY NJ NY Rosemon, Lillie W F 9/12 gr-dau NY NY NY Price, Mary W F 13 niece at school NY NJ NJ Given that the middle names of Cornelius Price Rosemon and his daughter, Elsie Price Rosemon, were both “Price”, together with a niece, Mary Price, bearing that surname, it seems highly probable that Rebecca Rosemon was “Rebecca Price” prior to her marriage to Edward L. Rosemon. Despite an exhaustive search, including an encounter with a namesake who married a man named “Eden L. Roseman”, I was unable to find a marriage for a “Rebecca Price” to an “Edward L. Rosemon”, or any other mention of them beyond the 1880 Census listing. References
