[edit] Personal History1829 - Birth: Rebecca McCabe was born about 1829 in Ireland. Source is her 1889 death registration where she was listed as 60. 1861 - Census: In 1861, Rebecca (incorrectly spelled Rebecka) White 29, born in Ireland, was living in Goderich Township, Huron County, Ontario, with her husband, John White 49 (age probably incorrect), Farmer, born in Ireland, and their children: Elizabeth 15, Mary Ann 13, Margaret J 10, James 8, Sarah 6, Rebecka 4, Mariah 3, John 1 month. All of the children were born in Ontario. Also living with them was Mary White 75, born in Ireland, widow and listed as family. Source is 1861 Census of Canada, Goderich Township, Huron County, Canada West. NOTE: Mary White was probably his mother. This family is listed on the same census page as the Hugh McCabe and William McCabe families - so they lived close to each other. All ages have been corrected to reflect age at LAST birthday. 1871 - Census: In 1871, Rebecca White 42, born in Ireland, was living in Goderich Township with her husband, John White, 51, Farmer, born in Ireland, and their children: Mary Ann 24 (abt 1847), Jane 19 , Sarah 18, Rebecka 14, Maria 13, John 10, Grace 8, Samuel 6, Edda 4 and Joseph, 8 months (born in July). All of the children were born in Ontario. Source is 1871 Census of Canada, Goderich Township, Huron South District, Ontario. 1881 - Census: In 1881, Rebecca White 48, born in Ireland, was living in Goderich Township with her husband, John White 58, Farmer, born in Ireland, and their children still at home: Sarah 26, Robert John 17, Eda 12, Joseph A 10, Wm George 8 and Marg't Jane 5. All of the children were born in Ontario. Source is 1881 Census of Canada, Goderich Township, Huron District, Ontario, page 6. NOTE: It appears that Sarah returned to her parent's home after being married to Elliott Irwin in 1875.
