Ralph was born Oct. 20, 1930, in Oakland, California, to the late Marshall F. and Norene (Fry) Watson. He married Edna M. (Grine) at Trinity United Church of Christ, Tiffin, June 23, 1956, and she survives in Old Fort. Ralph also is survived by his son, David M. Watson of Old Fort; and a sister, Winifred A. Tart of Greenwich, Connecticut. Mr. Watson was a lifetime farmer where he was the caretaker and eventual owner of his family's property around Old Fort. He served on People's Mercantile and Elevator Association board of directors and was a member of Old Fort United Methodist Church. There he was active with Faithful Followers Sunday School class and a communion steward for many years. Ralph was a 50-plus year member of Old Fort Lions Club, serving as president and virtually all other posts, and an Old Fort High School graduate. Ralph was a U.S. Army veteran who served stateside at Ft. Carson, Colorado, during the Korean War. Ralph and Edna enjoyed traveling from the time they were married with a trip around Lake Erie to Niagara Falls and back, and to all but three states in the union, including Alaska and Hawaii. They also visited Australia, New Zealand, Nova Scotia, Europe twice, England, Ireland and Scotland. They made it a point to always take a vacation however short it may be every year and, after Edna retired, they took many longer trips (up to 30 days!) when possible. Mr. Watson also was preceded in death by a son, Ralph T. Watson III, and a brother, Kenneth D. Watson. There will be a memorial service for Ralph at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin, with the Rev. Mark Quinter officiating. There will be a short Lions Club memorial service immediately preceding the services for family and friends. Visitation for family and friends will be Noon until the time of the funeral on Saturday. Burial of his ashes will follow at Pleasant Union Cemetery, Old Fort. Memorial contributions may be made to Old Fort Lions Club or Pleasant Union Cemetery Association.
