Ralph DePuy Carhart, 85, of Englewood, Fla., died Monday, June 9, 2003, at Englewood Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Jan. 6, 1918, in Coeymans, N.Y., to Charles and Ada (DePuy) Carhart. He had been a resident of Englewood since 1992, coming from Bradenton, Fla. Mr. Carhart was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Philippines. He was a heavy equipment machine operator for Callahan Corporation in South Bethlehem, N.Y., and retired in 1983 after 30 years. Survivors include his daughter, Mary Helen Shonk of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two sons, Thomas Carhart of Englewood and Ralph Carhart of Ravena, N.Y.; one sister, Gladys Stansfield of North East Palm Bay, Fla.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine, in 2001. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Englewood Community Funeral Home and Cremation Services, with the Rev. James Sweet officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Carhart to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238. Arrangements are by Englewood Community Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
