Husband Burwell Akers enlisted as a Private on 25 October 1861. Enlisted in Company E, 14th Infantry Regiment Kentucky on 10 December 1861. Mustered out Company E, 14th Infantry Regiment Kentucky on 31 January 1865 in Louisa, Kentucky. Two of Burwell's brothers were in the 14th, and their daughter Nancy Elizabeth Akers married Fernandes F. Hager, who was also in the 14th Kentucky Infantry. Fernandes was a nephew of Robert W. Hager, one of the founding fathers of the State of West Virginia, representing Boone County at the State's Constitutional Convention in Wheeling.
