Married Fernandes Hager. Aged Midkiff Lady Dies At Her Home -- Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth Hager, Beloved Christian Lady, Passes Shortly Before 70th Wedding Anniversary -- (By Geo. W. Kinder) -- Nancy Elizabeth Hager was born March 27, 1850, in Greenup county, Kentucky. Was married to Fernandus Hager, (now past eighty-nine years of age), having departed this life April 25th, 1935. Had she lived until the day of her funeral, April 27, 1935, she would have been married seventy years. She was the mother of ten children, six of whom survive her. Among her children living are Clinton Hager, Smiths Ferry, Pa.; Alice Lambert, Industry, Pa.; Stella Bolt, Midkiff; Lena Kinder, Midkiff; Hannah McMardie, Walbridge, Ohio; Francis Pinkerton, Midkiff. Those preceding her are Willie Hager, Burley Hager, Rachel Hager and Minnie Fry. She had forty three grandchildren and forty-five great grandchildren. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Enos Scragg, and Mrs. Hager was laid to rest in the family burial ground near her home. The pastor paid a beautiful tribute to the character of Sister Hager, with whom he had been well acquainted for several years, and remarked that he had never personally known weded life extending for a period of seventy years prior to this instance. Fernandus Hager who survives his wife is now eighty-nine years of age. They were married April 25, 1865, just after the last battles of the Civil war had been fought, and prior to the disagreeable period of reconstruction. Her husband had just returned from the Army of the Tennessee, having fought in the battles of Lookout Mountain, Cumberland Ridge, Dalton and Kennesaw, and was with the army of occupation when the City of Atlanta was taken. He was Fife Major, Chief Musician, Company A, Veteran Volunteers' Infantry, 14th Kentucky Regiment. The pastor, in the course of his (clipping ends here).
