Obituary from The Brownsburg Record, March 27, 1931 "Pioneer Mother Dead Priscilla Ellen Hornaday, widow of the late Abram Hornaday, and one of the beloved pioneer mothers of this community passed on to her reward Sunday, March 22nd. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Prevo at the local M.E. church, Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, followed by burial in Greenlawn cemetery. During the services the following obituary of her life was read: Priscilla Ellen Hornaday daughter of David and Sibby Farmer, was born near Avon, Indiana, April 16 1850, and passed on to her reward, March 22, 1931 being 80 years 11 months and 6 days of age at the time of death. September 13 1871, she was married to Abram E. Hornaday, and to these good people were born six children. Morton, the eldest child, departed this life May 29 1906. The other five are living, they are Omer of Brownsburg, Roy of Newcastle, Edgar of Seymour, Pear the wife of Elliott Burns of Indianapolis and Loran of Macon, Georgia. Besides these children she leaves twenty-one grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, two sisters, two brothers, one half sister, one step sister and two sisters-in-law Mrs. James Barlow and Mrs. Alva Hornday and a host of friends. She was one of eight children, three of whom have passed on to the great beyond and five remaining. The deceased was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church uniting with the same at the tender age of sixteen." From The Brownsburg Record, April 3, 1931 "Probate Business Walter L. Hornaday has been appointed administrator of the estate of Priscilla E. Hornaday. Bond $580 with James E. Burns and Harold E. Hornaday and Edgar M. Blessing as sureties. Interview with Margaret Hornaday Rush about Priscilla, as reported by Donald Edgar Hornaday "Priscilla and Abraham lived on a farm southwest of Brownsburg. In the mid 1920's, they moved to a house on the edge of town. The kids lost the farm (the buildings are still standing). Priscilla Ellen, "Ellen", was said to be a good homemaker but not very loving to her grandchildren. Abraham was domineering. She was a Methodist; he was a Christian. Both were Republicans. She died of cancer." |
