At Nile, N. Y., Jan. 27, 1888, Mr. Prentice Beebe in the 66th year of his age. The deceased was born in Brookfield, Madison county, of this state. In 1845 he was married to Miss Mary Ann Hood, who survives him. He leaves four daughters, Mrs. N. W. Stratton, Mrs. Erastus Root, Mrs. Alpheus Hincher, and Mrs. Arthur Dougherty; these, with their families, attended the funeral, and were with their father during his last illness. Four brothers survive the deceased, viz., Henry, John, Samuel, and Jeremiah Beebe; these were all present at the funeral. A sister, the widow of Jeremiah Burdick, was, by reason of illness, from attending; her four sons were present.
The deceased was an affectionate husband and father, a good neighbor, and kind to all, and especially considerate of the needy and distressed. Of his grandchildren he was remarkably fond, and by them and by all his family he was most tenderly beloved. He had but few if any enemies, and many, many friends. Pneumonia was the precuring cause of his death, from which disease he suffered much during his brief illness; and yet upon his features beneath the marble seal of death no traces of pain or of unrest were discernable; a fact full of satisfaction to his loved ones as again and again they looked upon the face so calm and beautiful in death, hat face that had so often smiled and wept with theirs.
The deceased had lived in Allegany county for forty-two years; first at Alfred, then at Wirt, and last in Friendship; and, being widely known, many came to his funeral, a testimonial of their regard for him. He was buried on January 30th, from the Seventh-day Baptist Church at Nile; a discourse was preached on the occasion by the writer of this notice, the texts of Scripture used being from 1 Cor. 15:51, and John 13:7, "Behold, I shew you a mystery," etc. ...
