Facts and Events
Pierre CLAMME was the ancestor of the major CLAMME family in America. Numerous inquirys by various members of the family have failed to find another family with this name in the USA. Pierre came to America after the end of the Franco-Purssian War in which he participated for his homeland, France. Germany won the war and took over Lorraine, Pierre's home as a part of the settlement. Family tradition is that when he returned to his home town of Dourd'Hal, it was under German rule. Another part of the settlement was that citizens could leave if they did not wish to submit to the German rule. Pierre chose to leave and we understand that a niece, Amelia (Kloster or Augsbourger) left with him. Pierre landed in New York City and stayed there for about a year and worked in either a coffee or candy business. Supposedly it was owned by a family member. Pierre then was drawn to Blackford County Indiana for reasons unknown to this generation. He entered into the business of farming and in 1875 married Elizabeth Spyre starting the American CLAMME family. _FSFTID: KH1B-4MT |
