NAME: Where did Stephen A. White find the dit name "Periot"?
NAME: This is not the Pierre Louis ARCENEAU who came to Louisiana to settle in Cabonnoce [now St. James parish] in 1765 and is a featured figure (among 40) in the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville on a mural, and on the wall displaying the names of over 3,000 Acadian refugees. That Pierre had five sons and lived to 1793.
BEWARE: Another Pierre ARCENAUD (same as above?) was listed in "The Dauterive Compact" at New Orleans, dated 4 Apr 1765, in which eight Acadian chiefs agreed to accept cattle on shares in the Attakapas, LA region.
!BIRTH-PARENTS-NAME-MARRIAGE-CHILDREN-RESIDENCES: Bona Arsenault, HISTOIRE ET GENEALOGIE DES ACADIENS; 1625-1810; Ottawa, Editions Lemeac, 1978, 6 vols.; p. 2402 (Louisiana); own copy. Born in 1735, Pierre ARCENEAUX, was "probably" the son of Jean-Baptiste & Anne CYR [sic] of Beaubassin. He married around 1760 to Marie GODIN dit LINCOUR, born in 1744; two sons listed, Eusebe and Pierre. In 1766, Pierre was at St. James [LA]; in 1769 Pierre [Sr.] was deceased. His widow had married Basile PREJEAN and she occupied lot number 31 on the west bank of the Mississippi with her two children, Eusebe and Pierre
CHILD-DEATH: Donald J. Hebert, SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA RECORDS; 1750-1800; vol. 1-A, rev. ed., Rayne, LA, Hebert Publications, 1996; p. 18; own copy; contains church and civil records. Could he be the father of a son Francois ARCENEAUX, one of the first burials at Attakapas, recorded 19 Sep 1765 at age about one year [so born around 1764]. Recorded as (SM Ch.: v.1, p.12) & (SM Ch.: Slave Funeral Register v.1, #21-A)? [Did they move after this to the St. James region, where son Pierre Jr. was apparently born the next year?]

A "Note de S. A. White:" We arrive at the identification of Pierre as son of Pierre à Abraham ARSENEAU by the elimination of possibilities. It seems that, among all the heads of Acadian households married before 1735, only Pierre à Abraham had a son with the first name Pierre who is already well known to us.

Pierre ARCENEAUX, married to Marie LINCOURT, appears on the 1766 census of St. James, LA. He and the three other ARCENEAUX (one another Pierre, married to Anne BERGERON) families may have been among the refugees led by Joseph BROUSSARD who arrived in New Orleans in 1765 via St. Domingue (Haiti), West Indies. Two more ARCENEAUX famlies arrived later, also settled in St. James, one of them another [sic] Pierre, married to Marie BERGERON. This Pierre died about 1768, leaving two sons: Pierre, Jr. & Eusebe.
