    4. Phillip Withers Crume, born 11 August 1752,41 probably in Frederick County, Virginia; died 8 May 182342 in Spencer County, Kentucky. He was married in 1778 in Shenandoah County, Virginia, to Sarah Trout. She was born in 1760 and died 15 November 1830 in Nelson County, Kentucky. The 1787 Virginia tax list for Frederick County shows Philip with two horses, mares, colts or mules and nine cattle.43 Phillip’s son, Jesse Crume4, who was born 6 July 1779, probably in Frederick County, Virginia, and died 26 March 1864, penned his reminiscences which have become one of the most important sources of information on the early history of the Crume family in this country. In 1859 at age 80 Jesse began the diary, now bound and entitled Incidents in the Life of Jesse Crume. He continued it until ten days before his death at age 84.
