They came from Laindon Hills, Essex Co., England. So far we have not been able to find who they were bonded out to, but it is sixteen years later before we pick Philip up again. What became of William and Jeremiah is unknown. One legend says one brother went north to Pennsylvania but does not say what happened to the third brother. Philip served in the militia several years in the 1770's in Fincastle and Montgomery Counties. He conferred or conspired with the tories at one time and had to take the oath of allegiance to America again. He is found consistently in the Montgomery and Tazewell Co., Va. records 1790-1820. Records indicate that he died about 1820. |
