Philip Kiley purchased 80 acres of farm land in Grant Township, Franklin County, Iowa on April 28, 1876 from Jacob Riddelsbarger.The legal description of his land is as follows: The north 1/2, of the northwest 1/4, of Section 23, Township 90 North, Range 20 West, of the 5th Principle Meridian.Record of this land transfer is at the Franklin Co. Court House in Hampton, Iowa, Recorder's Office, Book R, p. 144. The land was sold to John Thies, Oct. 12, 1906 by Philip Kiley's estate.Philip Kiley, Jr. was the administrator of that estate in Hancock County, Iowa.Record of this land transfer is at the Franklin Co. Recorder's Office, Deed Record, No. 31, p. 64. Philip's son-in-law, Edward Ryan, purchased the 80 acres just to the south of Philip's on the same day, from the same person.That land transfer, is at the Recorder's Office is in Book R, p. 145.Edward Ryan and his wife, Honora Kiley retired from farming in 1917.
