"Mr. Philip E. Graves has made quite extensive improvements in the building on the harbor front, part of which he uses for sailmaking. It has been newly shingled, new windows have been put in and other improvements made." Marblehead Messenger, 26 October 1900 Marblehead Messenger, 15 April 1904. "Sudden Death - The sudden death of Mr. Philip E. Graves, Friday, caused much surprise to his friends who although knowing that he had lived more than four-score years, looked upon him as one likely to live many years longer. Mr. Graves occupation was that of sailmaking and he worked at it until about two years ago in the loft near Crocker Park. He was a descendant of Louis Russell who sought an asylum in America at the time of the Huguenot persecutions in France. Mr. Graves is survived by a son. Mr. Arthur Graves and two brothers, Joshua L. and Eleazer Graves. At the funeral services held Monday afternoon, members of Atlantic Lodge, of which the deceased was a member, attneded and performed the burial ritual." occupation = sailmaker sail loft on Front st. near Crocker Park
