Facts and Events
Several years previous to the Revolution, purchased 190-acre farm. The British troops, having taken possession of that part of Westchester County, Peter Valentine was ordered with his carpenter's tools to assist in building the bridges, barracks, huts, etc., for which he was afterwards paid, and at the same time he and his family were protected from all annoyances of thieves or disreputable soldiers. From DAR Volume 42, p. 342, #41928 "was a member of the company from Westchester county 1775." No obvious parents for Peter. Other Westchester Valentines were descended from the emigrating Benjamin Valentine who arrived probably from Hollands, in NY by 1679. But I can't quite figure out how to link Peter to Benjamin. Catherine Theresa Lingenfelser (http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=genfel&id=I44) indicates that his parents were: Jacob Valentine, b. abt. 1693 in Mill Square, Yonkers, Westchester Co., NY; and Sarah Vermilyea, b. abt 1700 but others say that the Peter Valentine who was son of Jacob and Sarah was spouse of Rachel Hazen, not Mary Wilsea. |
