Peter Leyn Dyke’s father died, in 1900, when Peter was 5 years old. Peter can be found in the 1910 United States federal census under the name Peter Kennedy. His mother having married Addison B. Kennedy. Whether Peter was officially adopted and renamed Kennedy is not confirmed. When Peter got older he wanted to take his father’s name back. Unsure of the exact spelling, he spelled it Leyn Dyke, with a capital D. His marriage record of January 1917 has this spelling. He continued to use this spelling until his death in 1991.
