Peter Ellis Notes - updated May 23, 2006 Nancy Cook These notes were found on Ancestry.com in the World Family Tree section from Gary Ellis (furworld@@hotmail.com) Peter Ellis left Union Co S. C. about 1807 with wife Nancy and several children to settle in Pulaski Co Ky (now Russell Co Ky). Believe his parents to be Edmond and Mary Ellis of Union County SC. Edmond died there in 1801. This Ellis line was allied to the Wharton, Littlejohn, Bryant, and Cook lines in South Carolina. Peter Ellis was born bet. 1760-1770, died in Russell Co. Ky. bef. 18 Feb 1837, when an inventory of all the personal estate of Peter Ellis, deceased, was produced to the court. He married Nancy(possible maiden name Cook)abt 1790/95. She died bet. 1840/1850 Russell Co. Ky. I believe Peter Ellis was the son of Edmund and Mary Ellis. On 13 Mar 1807, Union Co. S.C., Peter and his wife, Nancy, signed a quit claim deed. A transcription of this deed was sent to me by Sherry Kyle. It states Edmund Ellis Sr., deceased,in his lifetime gave to his son, William Ellis, 100 acres. The legates to the said Edmund Ellis signed to release all claims to this 100 acres. Those signing were, Joshua Ellis, Peter Ellis,(wife)Nancy Ellis, Jonth Ellis, Bartlett Wharton,(wife) Sally Wharton, Hugh Cook (wife) Patsey Cook, and Edmund Ellis. Also signing was Mary Ellis, wife of Edmund Ellis Sr. Peter Ellis deeded 161 acres in Union Co. S.C. to Robt. Gipson on 23 Sept 1807. This was probably in preparation for the move to Ky. He is listed on the 1808 tax list in Pulaski Co. Ky. In 1810, he was listed as Peter Ellice, in the same county. By 1818, Peter was listed in Wayne Co. Ky. and by 1827 in Russell Co. Ky. (County boundaries were changing). The children of Peter and Nancy Ellis married into the Elam, Buster, Baugh, Cook, and Belk families of Russell Co Ky. The children listed below were named in a deed dated 25 Feb. 1837, located in Russell Co. Ky Would like to hear from anyone with connections to this line. http://genforum.genealogy.com/ellis/messages/7522.html Thanks.
