Peter Casey left Baltimore during the 1730's and settled on the south fork of the Potomac River in what is now Hampshire Count, West Virginia, near where Moorefield is now located. He was a well-known Indian fighter, a slave owner and was quite well-to-do.
Peter's son Nicholas was born in Hampshire County. He owned a large farm, 'Dunkirk Bottoms,' on the south fork of the Potomac near Moorefield. He served as a private in the Colonial Army during the Revolutionary War and after the war, he continued to live in Hampshire County until his death.

Later he obtained a large tract land on the Ohio River in what is now Union County, Kentucky, and became quite prominent in the affairs of the County, Casey Creek in Union County, Kentucky, was named in honor of this Peter Casey. His son Samuel was the first clerk of Union County and served a number of years in that capacity. Peter Casey [the first] was married twice. About 1740 he married Mary Magdaline Dupuy and to this union 5 children were born.
