- ↑ working on a broken electrical pole. It crashed to the ground and he jumped off a few feet above the ground. The incident crushed his ankles and he was hospitalized. Then went home to recover. He wasn't expected to walk again
- ↑ about 1 1/2 years after his accident Peter got a job in the railroad roundhouse. He issued tools to repairmen. Mother Barker was protestant and Erma went to Sunday school. On the Sunday when Erma was to be sprinkled Peter came along to be "religious" with family. He read the family Bible on his own until Oscar Menzle at the roundhouse asked to study with him. Oscar was a backslidden Seventh-day Adventist and knew about the Sabbath. When Peter discovered it they both started keeping it. Peter called Oscar his first convert!
