From Angela Ward-Wright

Resided on his father's farm north of town until married. Except winters when he went north to Grayling, Meredith and Bay Mills where he worked as a log scaler, store keeper and clerk. Spent time in Chesaning as clerk after his marriage. Was Township Treasurer for several years. Member of Blue Lodge and royal Arch Masons, of which he was High Preist in 1918. On March 24th 1940 (Easter Sunday) he has a stroke from which he did not recover.

As listed in his obituary 1940

.." was born at the Babion homestead, north of Chesaning on Dec 29, 1861. His parents came from Canada a few years earlier with a family of 9 children to make a home in the then Michigan wilderness and were among the first white settlers in Dutchtown. During his early life he spent some time in the lumber camps in the northern woods. His was the job of a log scaler and store keeper. On Dec 19, 1894 he married Carrie Atherton of Bridgeport, whose death on June 18, 1938 he gravely mourned. He spent many years as a clerk in several stores in Chesaning. During those years he also acted as township treasurer several times. At one time he operated a genral store for himself located at a cross road that was patronized by the surrounding community for all neccessities as well as patent medicine. Travel in horse and buggy was limited. A devoted Mason, he held a life membership in both the Blue Lodge and the royal Arch chapter and was a Past High Preist of the later. The youngest of a family of ten children, he leaves one sister, Lucy Craig of Atkins, Minn, who visted him during the early winter, but who now is in precarious health. His health for the past few years made it difficult for him to work inside and each summer and fall he spent some time in the North among the scenes of his former lumbering activities. He greatly admired the camp memorials built by the WPA workers on the site of the old lumbering camps and marveled at the change taken place.

On March 3rd, he became too ill to be left alone and moved to the home of his nephew, Albert Babion, where he suffered a severe stroke on Easter Sunday. Funeral Services were held at the Walker Chapel in Chesaning and burial will take place in Wildwood.
