The Orillia Packet - 17 February, 1910:

"Death of a Pioneer - Mr. Patrick Corrigan of Mara" "After a brief illness and fortified by the rites of the Roman Catholic Ch urch, there passed peacefully away on Tuesday, January 25th [1910], a high ly respected gentleman, in the person of Mr. Patrick Corrigan, who, h ad he lived until February 4, would have attained the ripe age of 91 years .

He was born in County Waterford, Ireland, in 1819 and came to this count ry with his parents when but a lad, settling on a farm in the townsh ip of Brock. When 18 he served in the volunteers who suppressed the McKen zie rebellion, and could give some interesting narratives concerni ng it up to late years, so remarkable was his memory.

In 1842 he married Ellen, daughter of Hugh McNinely, [sic] of the same tow nship. He then settled on Lot 15 Concession 7, in the township of Mara, whe re he resided up to his death. When he came with his young bride to fa ce the trials and hardships of making a home out of a wilderness, there we re no roads, nor any modern conveniences. Their union was blessed with el even children -- 8 sons and 3 daughters. The surviving members of the fam ily are: Michael of Bay City, Michigan: John of Uptergrove; James of Mil lington; Peter on the homestead; Mrs. J. Desmond (Nellie), Udney; Willia m, Vancouver, B. C.; and Joseph of Dallas Texas.

... The funeral on the 27th was largely attended. Internment took pla ce at St. Columbkille's church, Uptergrove, where solemn Requiem High Ma ss was celebrated by the Rev. Father Dollard, P. P., and then ... was la id to rest beside his loving and kind hearted spouse who predeceased h im a little more than three years. ..."
