QUAY 3 "Another of the early settlers of North Mara died Lately, Mr Patrick Clarke, at the age of 90 years. He came to Mara from Newmarket in the year 1840....He was a school trustee for more than 30 year s and was one of the first trustees of North Mara and kept the position until his age caused him to resign. He was also the township councillor for years...He rendered much help to early settlers tha t came to Mara after he did by providing them with seed, grain and other necessities, whether they had money or not. [mention of the Reform Cause and his vote for Captain Steele in 1841 or '42]...He leaves behind quite a number of boys and girls and gave his boys 100 acres of land each."
