Columbia City Post June 1918 Parmelia J. Stuart, daughter of Moses and Eunity Stuart, was born i Rush Co., In Nov 17, 1842 died June 6, 1915 aged 75 years 6 months and 19 days. She came to Whitley Co with her parents when she was nine years of age, making the trip i wagons and settled on a farm in Washington township. She was the only living child of her parents and her father being a cripple, she shared in the duties of the early pioneering. Their home being in the woods, it required a great many hard days labor to make the surroundings comfortable. She received her education at the Old Marion school house one mile so of Laud. She was united in marriage to Solomon Gillam, Feb 8, 1877. No children were born to them she having amother's charge of the two motherless children of Mr. Gillam by a form marriage. They are Mrs. L.A. Druley and Mr. Eston Gillam, both of this county. It can be truly said she discharged her duties to the children as well as any mother. She was baptized in the Methodist faith nearly 25 years ago and lived a true and christian life, always watching and waiting and until health failed her she always had her house in order so if the Lord came at morning, noon or midnight all was ready. She has been poorly for several days but since the death of her husband April 4, 1916 she has been failing gradually. For the last few weeks she has beenhelpless, her mind failing with her body, until at last she was unconscious-yet death came very peaceful and she passed to the great beyond. She will be greatly missed in the home, by the neighbors and in the church, but like Dorcas of old, her works will live and be remembered by all who knew her.
