OBITUARY - POINT PLEASANT REGISTER: Owens L. (Smokey) Plants, 90, of 1413 Ohio Street, Point Pleasant, died Saturday at Helping Hand Care Home in Millwood, W.Va., following an extended illness. Born April 7, 1899 in Leon, W.Va., he was a son of the late Theodore and Mary McKinney Plants. He was a construction foreman with West Virginia Malleable Iron Company of Point Plesant. He was a member of Eddy Chapel Methodist Church in Leon. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Daisy Holland Plants in 1934; his second wife,Inez Underwood Plants in 1975; one son, Charles Plants in 1984; and a daughter, Lois Plants in 1957, along with five brothers and two sisters. Surviving are three daughters, Marie Underwood of Leon, Betty Jean Taylor of Sugar Grove, Ohio and Mary Beth Price of Loraine, Ohio; three sons, Lawrence Plants of Point Pleasant, and Vernon Samuel Plants of Columbus. There are 34 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, in addition to four sisters, Beulah Orr of Newark, Ohio, Sally Tangle of Hebron, Ohio, Peggy Handley of Millwood, W.Va., and Bernice Tolliver of Millwood, W.Va. Services were conducted at 2 p.m. today at Eddy Chapel Church with the minister C. Eugene Zopp officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Eddy Chapel Cemetery Fund. Arrangements were under the direction of Cremeens Funeral Chapel.
