Owen Evans was the son of William and Ann Evans, who immigrated in 1698 and eventually settled in Limerick township. The family was originally from Carmarthenshire, Wales, but had been living in Limerick, Ireland on land that William's grandfather received for performing valuable military service during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Owen was a prominent man and was appointed Justice of the Peace in 1738. He remained in that post until his death. He was also at one time a member of the colonial assembly. He married Mary, daughter of William and Mary Davis, on August 14, 1721. They had eight children: William (1723-1747), Mary (married James Brooke), Anne (married Edward Lane), David (1730-1800), Benjamin (abt. 1732-1760), Gwenefried (married John Umstat), Jane (never married) and Thomas (1737-1810).
