Died of a heart attack caused by fighting forest fires - per Evelyn Bruder. Newspaper clipping in possession of Ambrose and Evelyn Miller OTTO REMUS FUNERAL TO BE HELD MONDAY Funeral arrangements are being made for Otto Carl Remus of Alberton, who passed away following a heart attack Tuesday evening. Lucy's- Hayes Funeral Home are in charge of the remains. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery following requiem high mass at St. Anthony's church Monday morning, October 1. Remus has been a resident of the Alberton community since 1948, where he owned and operated the Alberton Mercantile, a grocery dry goods store, with the post office in the same building. He was born at Long Prairie, Minnesota May 1, 1908. He lived in Chinook, where he was employed at the O'Hanlon Store for 24 years before coming to Alberton. While there he married Martha Bruder of Long Prairie. He was a member of the Alberton volunteer fire department, and over exertion in preventing a fire from spreading from the town dump is believed to have brought on his death. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Lodge 1644, and Aerie 689, Fraternal Order of Eagles. Survivors include is widow, Martha of Alberton; brothers Frank of Deer Lodge; Herman of Chinook; Robert of Park Rapids, Minn.; and Henry of Minneapolis; and sisters Mrs. Anna Nelson and Mrs. Emma Russell of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Clara Oak of St. Paul. He was preceded in death by a brother Paul and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Harder. References
