Orestes was the youngest child of Peleg and Rebecca Rice Wetmore. His parents died when he was about two years old, and his sister, Sarah Wetmore I took him to live with his Aunt Anna Rice Crosby. (Sarah I was the eldest of the nine children.) He lived at Blanchard, Iowa
