- ↑ Birth year calculated from the 1850 census is 1811-1812; from the 1860 census, 1814-1815; from the 1870 census is 1819-1820; from marriage record 1821-1822. 1812 is too early, as is the birth year of the eldest child, Sarah Ann, b. 1812. From the New York census with Peleg in 1830, it appears there are two sons older than Horace, and when he is living with Horace in 1850 he is evidently thought by whoever supplied the data to be older than Horace. As second wife is so much younger, I'd guess he began to deduct years after this marriage. Ergo use 1814-1815. Tombstone shows 1809.
