Mr. Oliver C. Gongaware, 93, of Perry Twp. passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2014 in the Overlook Nursing Home.
Mr. Gongaware was born on March 26, 1921 in Perry Twp. to the late Samuel and Lydia Mae Loughner Gongaware. He had worked at the U.S. Steel Plant in Ellwood City for thirteen years during the 1940's and 1950's. Oliver then worked at the Peter J. Luger and Son's meat packing house in Beaver Falls from 1955 until 1988 as a maintainence man.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and woodworking.
Mr. Gongaware is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Oliver R. (Jane) Gongaware of Perry Twp., his eight grandchildren; Beth Hazel, Kelly Krietzer, Matthew Gongaware, Andrew Gongaware, Richard Axe, Christy Cowart, Caty DeLong, and Jordan LaForce, his twelve great grandchildren, and his sister, Mary Jean Depoalo of New Castle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Catherine M. Desport Gongaware whom he married on September 5, 1942 and passed away on April 22, 1999, his daughter, Shirley Pauline LaForce in 2007, his four sisters, Joann Christophe, Nina Wilson, Iva Stickel, and Uretha Boak, and his seven brothers, Emanuel, Frank, John, Paul, Billy, Merle, and Earl Gongaware.
