Bibb County originally named Cahawba.
p. 27: The Feb 1819 minutes identify the tavern keepers as ---- Noah B. Coker.
p. 30: In December 1819 it [state legislature] named Noah B. Coker's house in the present Antioch Community.
p.41: The place selected for the temporary seat of justice was at the intersection of the Elyton - Selma and Tuscaloosa - Montgomery roads, 9 miles east of Centreville and approximately halfway between Centreville and present day Randolph. The area was then chiefly woods. Probably the only house there at the time of the selection was that of Noah B. Coker, who later owned the land. The new location took the name Bibb County Courthouse.
p.42: Coker, who had been licensed as tavern keeper in May 1819, may have erected the building later known as the courthouse before or during the years when the courts met there, or he may have added to its original structure later. It had 2 stories - 9 or more rooms - measuring about 16' square and a wide hall. The structure was torn down and used for pioneer houses at Tannehill State Park. It was heart lumber planed by hand and fitted Tongue-in-groove.
Sessions were held there until May 1829.
p.54: Noah Coker, not a fly-by-night- but a prominet citizen whose house was one of the first two designated polling places, was fined a dollar in the spring term of 1830 for selling rum, brandy, whiskey, and gin in smaller quantities than a quart.
According to the slave schedule for Bibb County in 1850, N. B. Coker owned 15 slaves. The ages and sex are given but not the names. The oldest male is 60 years old and the oldest female is 35 years old.
Per research of Elizabeth Jones, in the 1860 census in Bibb County, two unknown Coker's are in the household. James Coker, age 47 and James J. Coker, age 1.
