HISTORY: Complete Peerage The first of the St. Maur family entered England with William the Conqueror. Called De St. Mauro. Milo St. Maur was involved in the Baronial War against King John. A descendant, Laurence De St. Maur, living in the time of Edward I (1272 - 1307), married Isabella De Morewick, and their son Nicholas St. Maur (father of Beatrix), having been engaged in all the expeditions made into Scotland, was summoned to Parliament as a Baron

- Nicholas De St. Maur (Seymour), son and heir by 1st wife, was aged 24-30 at his father's death. He attended the Earl of Lancaster on his mission to France, 1294 and served in Gascony, 1296, for service due on lands in Cambs; in 1298 summoned for service against the Scots. in 1311 he had license to embattle his house at Eaton Meysy (Wilts). Knight of the shire, Gloucestershire, in the Parliament which met March 1312/13. In October 1313, as an adherent of the Earl of Lancaster, he had a pardon for participation in the death of Gavaston. he was summoned to Parliament 28 July 1314 to 16 October 1315, by writs directed Nicholao de Sancto Mauro, whereby he is held to have become Lord St. Maur.

- He married, (1) in or before 1303, Eve De Meysy. She died before April 1314, when he was already married to his second wife, Elena (Ellen) La Zouche.
