Farm formerly granted to Nicolaas LINDE 12 Nov 1818. VIGN 235: 2 Nov 1838: The same parties cede the adjoining property Bruine Klip, Swellendam, to George Fredrik LINDE. Bruine Klip was formerly granted to Nicolaas LINDE and Fredrik Ryk Ludolph NEETHLING on 1 Sep 1832. VIGN 236: 9 Nov 1838: Mauritz Woeke acted for Joseph BARRY, general agent for George Fredrik LINDE, in the transfer of both Tyger Hoek and Bruine Klip to Major William HENDERSON. Edmund Burrows records that Nicolaas LINDE (1765-1836) was Field Cornet at Tyger Hoek. He had been granted Appels Kraal (adjoining) in free hold from Gen. Janssens for bravery at the Battle of Blaauw Berg (Burrows 1994:53-4). Henderson was one of the several Indian army officers (they included Col William Shaw) who purchased property in the Overberg in the 1820s-30s. H.T. Vigne, an immigrant from England, purchased Tyger Hoek & Bruine Klip from a man named Morgan (who owned the land very briefly - as a property speculator?) in 1844 and the farms remained in Vigne's family for nearly 120 years. What became of George Fredrik LINDE? Does the above sale (VIGN 236) represent a departure of his family as part of the Great Trek, I wonder? Best wishes David Morris
