he arrived in Philadelphia, Pa. Oct. 12, 1741 on the ship Friendship, from Rotterdam, whose passenger list states that he was a Palatine immigrant. Settled in the First Twp. of Waterford, near Camden, N.J. and removed ca. 1752 to Town of Montgomery, Orange Co., N.Y. married June 8, 1747 at St. Michael's and Zion Lutheran Church, Anna Magdalena Jennewein born Dec. 29, 1724 Neunkirchen, Saarland, Germany daughter of Leonhard Jennewein. Marriage record shows June 8, 1747 Niclas Holtzlander, Catholic & Anna Magdalena Janewin, Lutheran, Witnesses: Adam Weber, surety Thomas Durmer. Nicholas and Anna were in Montgomery, Orange Co., N.Y. where church records show they were sponsors at the baptism of Johannes Sager, their grandson, Oct. 19, 1788. An Albertus Holtzlander born ca. 1669 visited England with his wife and 5 children in 1709, in an attempt to gain passage to the American Colonies. He refused to take the oath of a poor Protestant as required by the Queen and was returned to Holland.
