Nicholas Poyntz was co-heir in 1225 to Robert Bardolf. He is alleged to have married Isabel Dyall. In 1249 he and his cousin, William de Forz, were asked to warrant John de la Stane 1/2 knights fee in Wiltshire. On his step-father's death in 1253/4, Nicholas entered into posession of his mother's portion of half the barony of Curry Malet, Somerset. He fought in France in 1242 and in Wales in 1257. As a follower of John Giffard, he joined the Barons against King Henry III. Sir Nicholas Poyntz died shortly before 7 Oct 1273.

Nicholas Poyntz and Elizazbeth Dyall had one son, Hugh, b 25 Aug 1252, at either Tockington, Gloucester, or Curry Malet, Somersetshire, He died 1273, and married abt 1251, although other records say he died before 1273
