Nicholas Lehrer was born the fifth of seven children on the 22nd of March 1802 in Dabo to Joseph Lehrer and Marie Anne Ruffenach. After the death of Nicholas' mother in 1804 his father remarried in 1806 to Catherine Schott which resulted in another 10 siblings for Nicholas.

Nicholas married Catherine Schott, the niece of his stepmother, on the 7th April 1826 in Dabo, Moselle, Lorraine, France. Nicholas and Catherine had 3 children born in Dabo before Catherine passed away on the 28th February 1832.

On the 3rd July 1832, Nicholas married Thérèse Spengler and they had nine children before Nicholas died on the 19th December 1863 in Dabo.
