Nicholas was born in W.Va. At an early age, he moved to Lawrence, Kansas, with his parents and after the death of his father, assumed the care of his mother and seven younger brothers and sisters. He was a farmer all his life and died at the home of his son, Fred Clark, of Moline, Kansas and is buried in the Moline Cemetery. Nicholas and Nancy had four boys.
