Facts and Events
Nehemiah was a soldier in King Phillip's War, Captain Prentice's Compan y. His brother John was a drummer in the same Company. Nehmiah was a wea lthy and influential citizen of Braintree, MA. Hew was a selectman from 1 706 to 1716 and often acted as Moderator Protem in Town Meetings and was o ften on comittees. His will dated 6 Jan 1717, pro 28 Feb 1717, rec Suff P rob 20, 143.
Nehemiah Hayden Sr. was admitted to full communion on 7 October 1697. He was selectman 1706-1716. He was elected surveyor of highways in 1693; tithingman in 1696; surveyor for Monatiquot in 1750; selectman 1706-1713 and 1716, and moderator 1717. He resided on Washington Street in Braintree until before 1700, when he moved to Pond Street. He served in King Philip's War in 1675.
The will of Nehemiah Hayden is dated 6 January 1717/1718, proved 28 February 1717/1718. It
mentions all the children as living except Mary, deceased.
- To wife Hannah one end of dwelling house for life & a cow & Ð6 a year & half of moveables.
- Eldest son Nehemiah land bounded by Nath'l Thayer, the Frenches & so on the Pond, 4A swamp at Frenches Swamp, 8A woodland bounded by Josiah Hobart & John Ruggles, Ebenezer Thayer & my own land.
- To son Samuel 1/2 of house he lives in and 30A land adjoining.
- To son Benjamin my dwelling house & all lands adjoining, he to pay out of it Ð20 to dau. Rachel Payne, & my son in law Samuel Hayden.
- To son John house he lives in & 25A land adjoining.
- To son Ebenezer Ð100 out of land I bought of Samuel Sewall lying at the head of Little Pond.
- To son Jonathan, same.
- All rest of lands to be divided between sons, daughter Hannah Stevens.
Wife Hannah & eldest son Nehemiah to be executors.
