Nathaniel(1) Halstead, born probably about 1595, in England, died in Dedham, Mass., 3 Feb. 1643. He married about 1620, Isabel -----, who died in Concord Mass., 15 Mar. 1641. There is almost nothing to be found about this Nathaniel or Nathan Halstead in the early records. It seems possible that this family may have come from Yorkshire, possibly from Suffolk or London. After his wife's death, Nathaniel seems to have moved to Dedham for the Dedham Records give "Dedham persons deceased in this Town … 1643 … Nathan Halstead, deceased the 3 of ye 12 mo". (p. 127.) "The Inventory of Nathaniel Halsteed amounting to 213£ 13s. 2d was presented, & it was ordered the eldest son should have 106£ 10s & the other 2. Children, 106£ 10s, & the eldest son William is graunted to bee Administrator." (Records of the Court of Assistants of Massachusetts Bay, 2:138.) Suffolk Co., Records, give the inventory of the goods of Nathan Halsted, late of Concord, dec'd taken, 5 - 12 - 1643, Amt £213. 13. 02. Natha. Halsted was made a Freeman, 2 July 1641. He left three children.
