Nathan & Hannah appear to be one of the first Pioneers with five other families that settled around the Mahoning River when it was nothing but wilderness. here the pioneers used their covered wagons as spare bedrooms and lived in the open until cabins were built. Israel Gaskill, Nathan brother came west with his brother. Israel moved to Salem, Columbiana County, Ohio and Nathan stayed in Stark County, Ohio. Nathan became the first Justice of the Peace of Stark County after its formation (Land Patent 1807). Nathan was in the 1st Regiment 2nd Brigade 4th Division of the Ohio Militia organized in 1806 Columbiana County, Thomas Keatch's Company. ( All males over 18 were subject to Military duty.)

    Nathaniel is the son of Daniel and Huldah (Mott) Gaskill. He married Hannah Owens in 1797 in Burlington Co., NJ. They had 10 children: Martha, Joseph, Eliza, Daniel IV, Israel, Abigail, Abraham, Levi, Mary and Wesley.

    In 1812 Nathaniel was the Justice of the Peace in Lexington, Stark Co., Ohio.
