information from Sheri Nye OURKIN Jacob Rine : Jacob and Elizabeth ( Drake) Rine ( both Deceased) the former a native of PA, born in 1796, Parents of John Wesley Rine, of Scipio Twsp ( who was born in Franklin Co. OH in 1826), came to this CO in 1836 and shortly after lost everything by fire. A few years later Mr. Rine owned land in Hopewell Twp which he sold and moved to Fostoria. He died in 1847. His father, Jacob Rine, was born in PA, on the 17th of April, 1796, being the son of Jacob Sr. who was a soldier in the Pennsyalvania regiment during the war of the Revolution . This hero of thewar of Independance came from the old Keystone state to Seneca CO OH after his son and namesake had located here,and the former purchased a tract of eighty eight acres in Adams twsp, wherehe passed the greater portion of his reemaining life, having been in Indiana a few years. He died in his ninety-fifth year, honored as one of the patriarchs of the community . The maiden name ofour subjects Mother was Elizabeth Drake, and she was born in PA. Byher marriage to Jacob Rine, she became the mother of nine children, namely: Margret, who became the wife of Peter Weaver and who is now deceased;Nathan the subject of this sketch;Mary the wife of Monroe J. Kistler, of Adams Twsp; Fletcher, a resident of Sandusky CO; and Alvin, a resident of Missouri. Jacob Rine, father of our subject was reared in PA, where he learned the tailor's trade in his youth,never following the same after coming to OH. He emigrated to the wilds of Seneca CO in the early 20's and purchased eightyacres of government land in Adams township and where he remained until the death of his wife in 184 He then came to Adams Twp and he eventualy consummated a second marriage, Mary A. Steele becoming his wife. She died abouttwo years later and his third mariage was to Miss Catherine Dunn, who survivied him several years, his death occuring at the age of sixty years. It may be consistantly noted in the connection that his brother Abraham, who was born in PA, in 1800, came on foot from that state to Seneca CO OH, in the early days, here entering claim to forty acres of government land, thenreturning on foot to his old home, whence he was accompanied by his brother Jacob on his final return to OH. both secured land in Adams twsp, and here Abraham Rine erected a log cabin, which was their first home. He continued to reside in this township the greater portion of the time there after until his death in 1884. He was one of the influential men of the community, was successful in his efforts and was recognized for his intellectuality and sterling charaacter. He served for many years as justice of the peace and was incubment in other local offices, while he was a devoted member of the United Brethen Church. source: A Cenential biographicaal history of Seneca Co.
