Article based on journals of, among others, Ella Harper, whose husband commanded Nathan's regiment, notes that Ella wrote her husband on November 8, 1862 that Nathan was home without leave. It also tells a story of Ella passing on a request from Elizabeth that Nathan's belongings be sent home, after he died "at home on sick furlough." The text dates the initial request in August 1864, renewed three months later, but the footnotes include letters from Ella to her husband only in May and August 1863.
