Genforum: “In a 1779 Enumeration of Hosak, Hoosick District, Rensselaer Co NY I found Hezekiah Armstrong and James Covell and, one family later, Nathan Armstrong. I hope this is b. Dover Dutchess Co NY Nathan Armstrong who enlisted from Rensselaer, NY, who married, Hannah Covell, whose two daughters were married in Stone Araby, Charleston Co NY, who lived around that time in Butternuts, NY and who died in Cohocton, Steuben Co NY in 1839 and is buried in Hopeview Cemetery.”

ABB, 881, p 7: History of Steuben Co NY, 1898, “Nathan Armstrong, Revolutionary soldier, was a resident of Montgomery Co NY for a few years, then moved to Butternuts, Otsego Co NY. In 1815 he moved to Cohocton, Steuben Co NY with his sons, Martin and James, joining son Jonathan who had been here one year. Next year (1816) the families if Nathan and his son Marin moved to their newhome in Steuben Co. Nathan died in 1841. Martin m 1st Margaretta Onderkirk on Jan. 28, 1798. She died Apr 17, 1799 leaving one son Nathan. The 2nd wife was Ruth Sawdy (1783-1846) - they were married Mar. 5, 1805. Children born in Montgomery Co were Hiram, Margaretta, Thomas C and Lucia. Their daughter, Rhoda, was born in Steuben Co. Martin died Sept. 30, 1824.”

NEHGS, Beekman Patent: Nathan Armstrong was b. 7 Feb. 1757 in Dutchess Co but removed to Rens. Co. soon after birth. He m. Hannah Goville [covil?] and applied for a Rev. Pens. from Steubin Co. 1832. [Rev. Pens. S 6524].

From “Earliest Armstrong Ancestors” by Kathy Alvis Patterson: Nathan Armstrong was born in Dover, Dutchess Co, NY, 7 Feb 1757, enlisted from Renssalaer Co and died in Steuben Co NY in 1839. DAR records show his wife as Hannah Coville and children including Jonathan, Martin, and James. He was in the 1790 Washington Co NY, 1800 Montgomery Co NY, and 1820 Steuben Co census; on the same page in 1820 and prettty close together I found Martin Armstrong, a Joseph Armstrong, and sons-in-law, Nathaniel Elliott, Zephman Flint and, also, Aaron Dewey, who was the father of Timothy Dewey and Horace who married Nathan's granddaughters Sally and Hannah Flint and Gabriel Dusenbury/g who probably married a daughter of Martin.
