Mrs. Elias Smith was born in Wayne Co., Ohio on April 13, 1829; died April 14, 1906 at the home of her son, Monroe Smith, Washington Twp., Whitley Co., In. She married in Wayne Co., Ohio and in 1848 came to live in Washington Twp., Whitley Co., IN. All 8 of her children are living: Francis M. and J. M. (James Monroe) Smith of Washington Twp.; Bazette in Huntington, IN; Mary Haley, Astabula, Ohio; Elisha, Muskingum Co., Ohio; Sherman Smith, Los Angeles, CA; Mrs. S.D. Raber, Columbia City, IN; and Albert Smith of Columbia Twp. Her husband died 27 years ago. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Sanders in the Washington Twp. Baptist Church; burial was nearby.
