Mrs. Nancy Deal died August 16, 1902, aged 70 years, 6 months and 8 days.
   She is survived by her husband, Edwin Deal, and the following children: Herman, Mrs. J. M. Cook, Mrs. J. H. Pfahler, Levi, Agnes, Mrs. E. E. Conrad, Mrs. D. P. Ford, Calvin E. and Harvey, of Meyersdale; Wm. H. and Charles, of Gormania, W. V.; Daniel and Ezra, of Cumberland, Md.; Mrs. E. J. Boyles, of Braddock, Pa., and Simon, of Patterson's Creek, W. Va.. There are forty grandchildren and two great grandchildren.   Mr. and Mrs. Deal were married Feb. 7, 1850, and the family ties remained unbroken for more than 52 years. On Saturday evening a number of her children spent several hours with their father and mother in social conversation. At half past nine the "Good night" was spoken and they went to their several homes, little dreaming that it would be their last social gathering with their mother. Some of them had scarcely reached their homes, when without warning, the fatal stroke came. Mother Deal died as she lived - a faithful Christian. She was a lifelong member of the Evangelical Lutheran church. The funeral services were held at her late residence at 6 o'clock on Monday evening, August 19th. She was laid to rest in the family plot in Union cemetery. The esteem in which she was held was evidenced by the vast concourse of people that gathered to pay their last tribute of respect. The sympathy of the entire community goes out [TO] the bereaved husband and children.

The Obituary does not show the original newspaper name or date; it was most probably a Meyersdale paper. Other records state that Nancy Lepley Deal died August 16, 1902.

MRS. EDWIN DEAL

Mrs. Deal passed from appareantly perfect health through the portals of death within the short space of a few hours, the major portion of which in blissful unconsciousness. She had been down town shopping and calling on her daughters, returning home in time to prepare the evening meal. About eight o'clock she complained of intense pain in her head and was assisted to bed, then came unconsciousness and death followed at 11 o'clock or three hours later. Mrs. Deal was born a Lepley, Esquire Adam D. Lepley of Keim is a brother. She was married to Edwin Deal about 1850 and for most of their years they resided in Greenville and Lariimer, coming here about 16 years ago and settling in their present home which Mr. Deal purchased of Mr. Wm. Slicer. During that long period of fifty-two years Mrs. Deal was literally and in every respect a perfectly healthy woman. Although sixteen children were born to the union, hers is the first death to occur in this remarkable family. Mrs. Deal reared all her sons and daughters to labor. There were no idle hands permitted in her household. She was no idler herself and set the example she inculcated. She was a life long member of the Ev. Lutheran church, bringing all her children up in the nurture and fear of the Lord. Every relation of wife and mother she thoroughtly filled and every duty that came to her hands she ably met and performed. It is pleasant to feel that after her long and well-spent life she passed to her long rest almost painlessly. Her age was 70 years, 6 months, and 8 days. Her aged husband survives her and sixteen sons and daughters all whom are married but two, Miss Agnes and Harvey, as follows: Herman, Levi, Calvin E., Harvey, Miss Agnes, Mrs. J. H. Pfahler, Mrs. E. E. Conrad, Mrs. Jas. M. Cook, Mrs. D. P. Ford, all of Meyersdale; Mrs. E. J. Boyles, Braddock; Mrs. W. H. Reiber, Confluence; Charles and William H., Gormania, Md.; Ezra and Daniel, Cumberland, Md; and Simon, Md. Beside these she leaves 40 grand children and 2 great-grandchildren. After a short funeral service at the home by her Pastor Rev. B. B. Collins assisted by Rev. J. H. Knepper, her body was reverently borne by her sons to the hearse and the long cortege wended its way to Union cemetery, there it rests until the last summons is given by the Master.
