CALVIN E. DEAL

 Calvin E. Deal of LaVale, Md., former resident and businessman of Meyersdale,died Friday, Nov. 5, in the Allegany Hospital, Cumberland, where he had been a patient for about ten days.  He had been in ill health for some time and had undergone an operation a few months ago.
 Mr. Deal was born at Deal, Larimer Township, Pa., 76 years ago the son of the late Edwin and Nancy (Lepley) Deal.
 In 1898 he married Margaret Lenhart of Somerset.  The couple settled in

Meyersdale where Mr. Deal became superintendent of the Champion Mills owned by his father. In 1902 he purchased and continued to operate it until 1921 when he sold it to the Meyersdale Milling Co., and started in other business in Maryland. Besides owning and for some time occupying the large Levi Deal residence on Meyersdale Avenue, Mr. Deal built the bungalow next to it, where the family lived until they moved to LaVale in 1922.

 At the latter place, Mr. Deal became owner of the Deal Oil Company and built the Deal Apartments and several residences.  About 10 years ago he retired, turning the business over to his son Claude.
